It is the year of the chain
Bonds are tested Weak links break Lives shatter For the greater good Weights pull us under Only the strong make it back up It is the year to test Those bonds you’ve created At birth, they are molten Molded through years Imperfect links thrown out Not hard Some are misshapen, yet stay Strong enough to hold, for now Cooling as time passes Until the next Some chains are forged from iron Some from steel, others wood Some burn, others just crumble away To ashes Weak links are tested As hard as we try to keep From slipping through our fingers The weight is not so hard, yet That many stay A few fall Even so, we hardly notice Now it is time for the real test Of who will break, who will hold Links of weakness Tarnished by life’s great chore Rust creeping upon edges Suddenly engulfs, ending What was once a beautiful link Flake off in chunks No ashes for them Immense pressure tests Many links fall into oblivion Others, crack There, but useless A small strength, in a heavy world My chains are all breaking Coats of paint all flaking off Revealing the cracks underneath Links are falling in droves The sound of metal cracks Keeping me up through the night The dull clangs of my heartbeat In tune with I fear it all falling away It surely is Until all I am left with Is the great chain in the middle Too strong to ever break The one true way The great chain of God Pulling me forward Is always there Surely I will be okay?
